This summer I bought an orange tree
And planted it in my room.
Placed centrally, benefitting from sunlight, it flourished
When I invited you round
We spent a summer of delights
Sustained on its fruits we fed
But to survive it needed more than light
And I forgot
When winter came it failed
And with its passage, our dreams also
Turned to dust.
