City dwellers

In the city the crowds are anonymous
Individuals bleached out; white
Lives are translucent, see through
The sight of survivors is glazed
The one identity part of a whole
A neon vision of light
Making the night their day
They stalk, zombie-like through the streets
B-movie actors, unwilling to sleep
The 24 hour party palaces
Are filled with drawn, tired faces
Eyes wide, staring blankness
They prolong their hours of wakefulness
Fill themselves with restlessness
Till they can’t stop
They drive their cars too fast
Do 70 in the 30 zone
Feel high on the rush of it
Turn themselves into monsters
Everyday lives merged into nightmares
Junkies addicted
The speed of city life
